It’s time to embrace the body positivity movement

Women are amazing. Our bodies can do so many incredible things, so it’s heartbreaking to hear friends say things like, “Ugh, I hate how big my thighs are,” or, “I just want to lose, like, 20 pounds and then I’ll be happy.” I’m not saying these negative thoughts never cross my mind, or that you can completely eliminate them from yours.

Unfortunately, due to the media-heavy society we were raised by, and this constant lust for the perfect Instagram body, we all have negative thoughts about ourselves while scrolling through social media feeds.

Body positivity is difficult to re-learn when our lives are saturated with ads telling us how to be thinner or more desirable.

According to the National Organization for Women, 59% of us are unhappy with our bodies. That’s a problem. Women are beautifully powerful, and many of us need to be reminded of the power we possess regardless of our size, color, age, ability, sexual orientation, or presumed societal status.
